Talos Snort Subscriber Rules Update

Synopsis:
Talos is aware of vulnerabilities affecting products from Microsoft
Corporation.

Details:
Microsoft Vulnerability CVE-2021-38666:
A coding deficiency exists in Remote Desktop Client that may lead to
remote code execution.

A rule to detect attacks targeting this vulnerability is included in
this release and is identified with GID 1, SID 58541.

Microsoft Vulnerability CVE-2021-42292:
A coding deficiency exists in Microsoft Excel that may lead to security
feature bypass.

Rules to detect attacks targeting these vulnerabilities are included in
this release and are identified with GID 1, SIDs 58539 through 58540,
or GID 1 SID 300054 for Snort3.

Microsoft Vulnerability CVE-2021-42298:
A coding deficiency exists in Microsoft Defender that may lead to
remote code execution.

Rules to detect attacks targeting these vulnerabilities are included in
this release and are identified with GID 1, SIDs 58519 through 58520.

Talos also has added and modified multiple rules in the browser-ie,
file-image, file-office, file-other, malware-cnc, os-windows,
server-mail and server-webapp rule sets to provide coverage for
emerging threats from these technologies.
