After spending a good amount of time, I've came to realize that it would be best to post my issue to the community.

the pfsense box and that too did not help.
As simple of an issue as this might be, I can't find out what might be the cause of this.
If you can either point me to logs to look for other than the snort logs that only state that the download fails, or 
know what the cause might be, I'm all for listening!
