Snort Service not starting

Hi there,
I am trying to run Snort as a service on Centos 7.
However when I try to start the service it is timing out and eventually
/var/log/messages tells me

PID file /var/run/snort_eth0.pid not readable (yet?) after start.

The PID file is not existing, if I create it myself I am getting the same
error message.
I guess my rights are somewhere messed up?!

Does anybody have an idea?
