Communication between snort and other app

Hello to everyone.
I'm developing an application to interact with snort. More precisely I want this application take some actions when 
some alerts of snort are triggered.
My problem is related with UNIX Domain Socket. I'm using output alert_unixsock on snort.conf.
My question is: what I need to do in my application to communicate (or listen) this alert_unixsock? Code example, 
please?
