Re: snort admin interface GUI type

As you can see, I'm now caught up to August for my mailing lists! Miss
me, folks? :-)

(top posting because of thread-status)

Because of my consistent annoyance at people taking open source software
and selling it outright or putting their logo on a Dell box, I just
wanted to chime in here.

You mentioned "client deadline" so I assume this isn't a charity.

Have you returned anything to the open source projects from which you've
"packaged" for your clients/customers? I liken this to a homeowner who's
property looks magnificent, but their lawnmower was borrowed from the
neighbor.

Another curiosity I have is, if someone is willing to pay for a product,
what makes them choose a knockoff instead of the original? I say this
not to be snarky, but out of pure huh?-ness.

Thanks,
Randy

Paul is that a complaint?

We make quite clear redBorder is an evolution of Snorby. We even offered the possibility to do it within Snorby
itself but Dustin didn't have the time we needed to meet client deadlines

Besides, we added:

# Sensor configuration
# Very advanced rule management
# SNMP monitoring
# Performance improvements on the sensor
# DAQ porting to latest pf_ring
# IDS forwarding in the sensor
# Packaging
# All of this open sourced

So yes, Snorby was a great element of our success in the project as was Chef or Snort itself

And yes, we kept most of its look and feel as we love it

and remember kids: 'redborder' spelled backwards is 'Snorby'.

Very original web design :)

Hi Tina,

I would suggest redBorder.net as provides not only event management but also
sensor config and is open source
