Snort 2.8.5.3 Rules EOL

Everyone,

With the release of Snort 2.8.6.1 the clock started ticking for the 
support of Snort 2.8.5.3 rules. On October 22nd 2010, 90 days after the 
2.8.6.1 release date, support for the 2.8.5.3 rule set will cease. For 
registered users there will be an extra 30 days after this date due to 
the 30 day delay you currently experience with rule releases.

Upgrading your security software is just good practice and an essential 
part of your security posture, you should plan on upgrading your 2.8.5 
installations to 2.8.6.x ASAP.

Note that although 2.8.5.3 rules will work with a 2.8.6.x version of 
Snort, the same cannot be said for 2.8.6.x rules in a 2.8.5.x 
environment. Remember, on October 22nd the only rules available will be 
for Snort 2.8.6.x.
