Can you help me about Snort's preprocessor!!!

I'm researching about Snort preprocessor.but I confuse about them.I want to
understand thoroughly about them (ex:structure, Preprocessor
Layout,consuming memory, perfomance...)
Can you help me! (ex:document, manual...)
