I switched to barnyard2 a couple months ago, it works fine and is currently supported, where barnyard is abandonware at 
the moment.  I'd recommend barnyard2 just for that reason.

so far I directly output from snort. I'd like to switch to a unified +
barnyard setup. What are the pro and cons for unified/barnyard vs
unified2/barnyard2? Which one is the recommended one? unified2 seems
simpler as there is only one file.
