Hi Hans,

After testing your script in my test machine, I still got the
following warning message :

Dec 18 22:01:04 myhost snort[13488]: Could not remove pid file
/var/run//snort_eth0.pid: Permission denied

Although the mentioned file has already been deleted.

Thank you

Hi al

some snort user on openSUSE 11.0 had daemon problemes when installing from
repository-rpm
the cause was incompatibility of the init script snortd

solutions can be found at:

http://www.kriyayoga.com/love_blog/post.php/1067
shows/explains the solution and also links to an openSUSE compatible snortd
script

googling around for long time on that subject also showed that other Linux
users had same or similar problems
