Unless you are using Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, XP is only a  
32bit OS.  Meaning it can't address more than 4Gb of memory without  
hacks.  (The /PAE config) Besides, I don't think that Snort is  
compiled for Windows for 64 bit.

AFAIK, the application is not managing the memory by itself but the
operating system does.
So if you use WinXP then you will not be able to use more than 4GB of
memory, no matter whether your application can.

Please correct me on this.
