Thanks for your useful response.

Incidentally, Steve's email didn't make it in the digest of the list I
receive from sf.net, nor did it make it to popular archives like MARC.
Nerijus' reply to Steve did.  Weird.

I guess Snort is officially able to shed its "lightweight" adjective,
at least in a default configuration?  :)
