Use the -r <somefile> switch to read packet dumps back in. Tcpdump-created files work nicely.

More important, go read http://www.snort.org/docs/snort_manual/ and "man snort" before you get started -- you'll discover all sorts of wonderful things that way. ;-)

Hi all,

Does Snort have an offline mode of operation?

That is, can I configure Snort to read (say) tcpdump files and perform IDS work rather than read packets off the wire.

Thanks,

_R
