Snort and Barnyard startup sequence

I am running both Snort and Barnyard in daemon mode. Does it make a difference whether I have Snort start up before 
Barnyard or vise versa? 
Sometimes, after changing some configuration in Snort(which I restart Snort but not Barnyard), I have seen alerts no 
longer reporting to my database. However, after I restart Barnyard, everything returns to normal. Any thoughts why this 
may happen? Many thanks!
