hi,

i have tried to upgrade my snort systems to 2.3.0RC2 on debian machines.
I experienced something very strange. The init.d start-stop script does
not
write any pid file of snort, and thus i cannot restart snort. I've
tested this on
a woody system and also on an unstable system, same result. I've googled
around,
but found nothing. Can someone give me a hint ?

Is there any type of log message to indicate a problem? When I have
seen this type of behaviour, it was because the permissions on the
directory that you were trying to write the pid file were wrong.
