If you are on a linux based machines,promisc mode can be enabled by running 
"ifconfig -a".
When snort runs in NIDS mode,NIC automatically getinto promiscuous mode.You 
can use
the following option to disable promisc mode.

       -p         Disable promiscuous mode sniffing
