RE: Increase in nmap pings

Many of my early hits were from France and Germany, one each from England
and the USA. Most sources only generated 1 or 2 events. I just looked  at
the time profile within ACID, and see the following for today (all times
EST)

05/3/2004 8:00:00 - 8:59:59 388
05/3/2004 9:00:00 - 9:59:59 518
05/3/2004 10:00:00 - 10:59:59 555
05/3/2004 11:00:00 - 11:59:59 592

And still, now heavy hitters, with over 2600 unique source addresses

Checking my logs for NMAP events, I concur with Michael's observations:

5/1 0005h (EST) - 5/2 0005h (EST): 2
5/2 0005h (EST) - 5/3 0005h (EST): 39
5/3 0005h (EST) - now: 2483

The bulk of the "ICMP PING NMAP" events started after 0117h (EST). Many
different sources and destinations.
