Testing snort?

I believe I have snort setup correctly.  And excuse me if I missed this
in the docs, I thought I read them fairly thoroughly, but is there a
utility or something that will send shellcode or other attacks against
my box so that I can test snort?

I'd hate to sit back and think I have it setup correctly and be wrong.
