are you sure all the process's are running?  Are you on a switch?  if
you go to the IP of your snortbox and enter http://IP_ADDRESS/etc/passwd
do you get an error (this is the easiest test for me)  if you do snort
-c /etc/snort/snort.conf does it start or do you get errors?
