[...snip...] There's your error. Line 285 of /etc/snort/snort.conf has a problem. The filename for the Unicode Map file isn't valid. You'll need to make sure it's in the same dir, or put the fully qualified path in there. Something like: /wherever/unicode.map Viola. It's fixed.
