Barnyard remote SQL connectivity

I'm running barnyard on several snort sniffers set up to log to remote SQL
servers.  I've found that if I try to start barnyard and the remote sql
server is not up, barnyard dies and will not start.  Does anyone see this
same behavior?  What have people done to get around this - periodic or
cron'd restarts?
