Installation problems.

I am attempting to install Snort according to the installation instructions
on the snort web site.

I am having a problem with the section called Installing and setting up
Apache 2.0.45 with PHP 4.3.1

> From Apache's site, I can only download version 2.0.47 but I doubt there
would be much difference.  When I run 

./configure --prefix=/www/php --with-apxs2=/www/bin/apxs
--with-config-filepath=/www/php --enable-sockets
--with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql --with-zlibdir=/usr/local --with-gd

I get the following error
Configuring Zend
checking build system type... Invalid configuration `with-gd': machine
`with' not recognized

I am new to Linux and although I am finding the document helpful, I am
starting to get frustrated as this is my third attempt at installing.
