Solaris 9 SPARC compilation problems

Hello fellow Snorters:
 
Just wandering if you've ever experienced problems running make on Solaris 9
SPARC edition in attempts to compile Snort 2.x? I'm running gcc3.3x for
SPARC(downloaded from sunfreeware.com). The make process exits(bombs) with
the following:
 
make[3] ar: Command not found
make [3]: *** [libspo.a] Error 127
make [3]: Leaving directory `/root/temp/snort-2.0.1/src/output-plugins'
make [2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make [2]: Leaving directory `/root/temp/snort-2.0.1/src'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/root/temp/snort-2.0.1'
make: *** [all] Error 2
