Jacob, Grab the docs from the Snortsnarf install as it has instructions on installing Perl, and a download link. -Michael -- Michael Steele | System Engineer / Support Technician mailto:michaels () silicondefense com Silicon Defense - The Cyber-War Defense Company Website: http://www.silicondefense.com Snort: Open Source Network IDS - http://www.snort.org _____ From: Snow Jacob C KPWA [mailto:JacobSC () kpt nuwc navy mil] Sent: Monday, April 14, 2003 1:02 PM To: 'Michael Steele' Yeah it is a real big over kill for one sensor, but there is the possibility that I might throw more then one sensor on the network. I am monitoring a voice over IP system with my current thing but might add up to 3-4 more sensors on it depending on if I am successful with my testing. You said there is an easy way to put perl on, care to enlighten me :-) BTW you have been EXTREMELY helpful and I am very grateful for the help that you have given me thus far :-) Thank you, Jacob Snow jacobsc () kpt nuwc navy mil (360)315-3487 NAVSEA Intern -----Original Message----- From: Michael Steele [mailto:michaels () silicondefense com] Sent: Monday, April 14, 2003 11:36 AM To: 'Snow Jacob C KPWA' Cc: snort-users () lists sourceforge net Subject: RE: [Snort-users] Snortcenter and windows Jacob, If you are only managing one sensor then configuring snortcenter is (IMHO) an overkill. You must run Perl, and it's not real complicated to setup. -Michael -- Michael Steele | System Engineer / Support Technician mailto:michaels () silicondefense com Silicon Defense - The Cyber-War Defense Company Website: http://www.silicondefense.com Snort: Open Source Network IDS - http://www.snort.org _____ From: snort-users-admin () lists sourceforge net [mailto:snort-users-admin () lists sourceforge net] On Behalf Of Snow Jacob C KPWA Sent: Monday, April 14, 2003 12:17 PM To: 'snort-users () lists sourceforge net' I am just curious if other people out there are running everything on windows. I just got my sensor and database to work together and log stuff and all is well with the world. I am now trying to install snortcenter v 1.0 to manage my sensor(s) but when I look at the documentation (off their website) it is asking me to run a perl script. I don't have a perl interpreter, and would rather not use perl if I can help it. Is there a way to set up the agent for 1.0 on a windows machine without using perl? Documentation, etc? I would greatly appreciate some guidance in this as I am a snort/snortcenter n00b. :-) Thank you, Jacob Snow jacobsc () kpt nuwc navy mil (360)315-3487 NAVSEA Intern
