Firewall vs IDS

Hi Snorters,

Do you have any document telling the difference
between firewall and IDS.
I want a whitepaper sort of a think which tells me
about "Firewall Vs. NIDS"
I googled a lot but couldnot find any information
about differences between firewall and iDS.

It would be great if you guys drop in your expertise
on "Firewall vs IDS".

and Why shall we go for NIDS like snort if I have a
great,well configured firewall.
