Mark, you need to help us out here.  To really understand your problem, we
need more information.

  *  Version and build of Snort?--There was 1.9beta, 1.9.0, and 1.9.1.
There have been builds up to Build 233, IIRC.  We need to understand which one
you are using to be able to help.
  *  OS and Version?--Since Snort runs on about 12 different OS's, we need
that info.  :)
  *  Error message?  Are you getting one?
  *  What does 'have a problem with the Alert.ids configuration' mean?  Is
it a problem that Snort fails to start, this file is failed to be written,
or is there an error in the data in the file?

Before you reply, have a read over this post [0] that I made.  It gives
you some excellent pointers for posting a question that you can get the
right answer to in the quickest manner.  And besides, it's good for your
Karma.  ;-)
