Snort Sensor installation error

Hi All,

I'm trying to setup a Snort Sensor for the first time, so please bear with me. I have followed the paper Snort
Enterprise Implementation - Snort, MySQL, Acid and SnortCenter on Redhat 7.3 (v2.0) (pdf), which can be found at
http://www.superhac.com/index.html and keep on running into an error. The snortcenter management console has been
built on another machine and runs great. As for this machine, I have built it with Redhat 7.3 updated and installed
all relevent patches. I ran the ' chkconfig portmap off ' command. Next I ran ' rpm -ivh
MySQL-client-3.23.55-1.i386.rpm ' and also ' rpm -ivh MySQL-devel-3.23.55-1.i386.rpm ' both of which installed
flawlessly. Then I downloaded snort-1.9.0.tar.gz from www.snort.org/dl which downloaded as snort-1.9.0.tar.tar, and
ran ' tar -zxvf snort-1.9.0.tar.tar ' and cd'd into the newly created snort-1.9.0 directory. Finally I ran '
./configure --with-myql ' (which ran fine) and then ' make ' , which ended with an error. To be specific it is as
follows:

/usr/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.a(my_compress.o): In function 'my_compress': My_compress.o(.text+0xaa): undefined
reference to 'uncompress'

/usr/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.a(my_compress.o): In function 'my_compress': My_compress.o(.text+0x13c): undefined
reference to 'compress'

collect2: Id returned 1 exit status

make[3]: *** [snort] Error 1

make[3]: Leaving directory

make[2]: **** [all-recursive] Error 1

make[2]: Leaving directory

make[1]: [all-recursive] Error 1

make[1]: Leaving directory

make: **** [all-recursive-am] Error 2

root#

Any light anyone can shed on this for me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jay
