ACID/MySQL - event count vs. acid_event count

Has anyone else observed the results of

 SELECT COUNT(*) FROM snort_archive.event;

 SELECT COUNT(*) FROM snort_archive.acid_event;

get progressively further out of sync as alerts from the main snort db 
get archived into the snort_archive db?

I'm running mysql 3.23.49 & php 4.1.2 .
