MySQL-Rights for Snort

hi to all

i give snort who is running on a router-host only the mysql-right to insert in 
the db on the monitor-host.
all is running and seems ok, but a friend told me that i must give snort the 
udate-right too for the db on the monitor-host to run correctly.
i've compared the routers-host alert.log and the entrys in the monitor-host db 
and it seems to me they are equal.
so if everyone could told me snort must have both rights and why i will be 
happy
