unable to run snort daemon

When I launch /etc/rc.d/init.d/snortd start. I immediately get an error saying 
1. starting snort: Initializing Output Plugins!
2. Group "snort" unknown
3. Fatal Error, Quitting...

I am a novice to Linux and snort, but I do need a IDS system running. Can someone help me resolve this problem 
regarding Group "snort" unknown.
