Setting an alert for a "connection threshold"

Hey all

Always wondered if Snort could do this.  Is there a way to write a rule to 
set off an alert when say, n connections are made to a certain machine over 
the network over x seconds?  Sort of like a mini-DoS detection?  Thanks 
everyone.
