Problem solved. There's probably a better way to do this, but... I deleted my ./snort-1.8.6 directory, and untarred the tarball again. Then I just installed as normal with the mysql and flexresp options enabled. Now snort will start properly. I'm having trouble enabling flexresp on my snort-1.8.6 install. This installation has been running fine without flexresp for quite some time. I wanted to give flexresp a try, so here's what I did: cd ./snort-1.8.6 ./configure --with-mysql --enable-flexresp make make install Then, I added my first flexresp rule, and started snort as I normally do. I get the "unknown keyword 'resp' in rule" error as if flexresp is not installed. Oddly, ./configure returns "config.h is unchanged" and make and make install whiz by so fast, that it looks like they're not really doing anything. I'm no Unix guru by any means. Do I need to do a "make clean" or something like that?
