Preprocessors

["COULOMBE, TROY" <TROCOU () SAFECO com>]

RTFM; RTFF; 
but couldn't find it::: where are the preprocessors kept? I see that they
are called from snort.conf, but are they configuration files? or are they
part of the binary?
are they editable? edible? visable?
