Just to let folks know there are a number of players developing commercial products around Snort. Silicon Defense was the first company to offer commercial support of Snort, and we have developed a sizeable customer base. We ship IDS appliances based on hardware from our strategic partner Sun Microsystems and have a management console for our appliances due in March (to complement the free Snortsnarf alert browser that we have supported for a couple of years and that is widely used).
There is also Demarc offering management console software for Snort, and then MSSPs such as Guardent offering a Snort based appliance as part of their monitoring service.

Hi Feng,Sourcefire is the commercial face of the Snort development project, we provide professional-grade Snort sensor appliances and Management Consoleappliances for users that want to take their Snort installations to the "next level". Snort itself will remain open source and free even with Sourcefirecommercializing it, so you'll always be able to get Snort for free, we just provide all the data management, GUIs, ease of use, deployability, etc that you get with our product line (and you get it from "the source", i.e. me).:) -Marty On 2/27/02 11:58 AM, "Luo, Feng (Exchange)" <fengluo () bear com> wrote:snort goes commercial now, but does anyone know how it works? where can Ihave the OpenSnort Management Console.
