Modularized snort

Hey guys, 

The question regarding mysql and snort requiring a recompilation got me
thinking...! What about modularizing the snort preprocessors / outputs to
allow them to be added / removed dynamically...!? Having not looked at the
code, I'm not really sure what I am asking - so please - don't flame - it's
only a suggestion!
