-N option to stop logging

I have two Snort sensors, I want them both to only log to a central database, that part works fine. I'd also like to 
disable local logging (I figured use, -N option). On Red Hat Linux 7.1 it core dumps EVERY time with that option.  
Anyone have a clue?  I've been able to find nothing.  Thanks.
