Database purge feature

As I am neither a database guru or a snort expert these may appear to be 
somewhat trivial questions, but I could not find answers in the FAQs etc. 
1) Is there a simple tool to purge the snort database (in my case mySQL) from 
entries older than a specified date?
2) I have been reading of users getting into trouble with "full" databases. 
What is the reccommended way of managing these type of situations?
