Snort-1.7 rule update

Hello,

There is Snort-1.7 Ruleset in www.snort.org Download page.

Will it be updated coutinually? (like snort-1.8 ruleset)
Or it isn't to be updated, and I will have to upgrade 
to snort-1.8 to detect newly informed intrusion, right?
