Latest Snort build?

I just downloaded and installed Snort 1.8.1-RELEASE from www.snort.org and
installed. When I run "snort -?" it returns "Version 1.8-RELEASE (Build
43)". Though I hear others discussing later builds, like "Build 75". Are
these later builds considered beta or release? Where can I download the
latest builds? I see mention of "snort-current" and "CVS checkout" on
www.snort.org under downloads as well. Is this the latest build (beta)? If
not, what is it?
