Subject: [Snort-users] flexresp

Hello,

I'm a snort newbie so please be gentle.

Q: Is it possible to send a reset for a tcp connection to both
sides. Let me elaborate. Client C (external) connects to
server S (internal). During the monitoring the conversation
between these two, snort realizes that C is trying to do
something nasty. As I understand it, flexresp can be triggered
to tear down the connection by resetting the connection on
the client side; but what happens is that the server remains
in an ESTABLISHED state. Now, if C does this for, let's say,
1000 times, as you can see the resources on S are being
consumed for nothing. Actually, what I'm more interested in
is sending an RST to the server and let the client hang for
a while (which I don't care). Besides, having torn down the
connection on S, the consequent packets from C will cause
an RST from S anyway. Is there any way to tell snort to
protect S and send an RST to it?

Thanks for any help/pointer.

Ramin
