Problems setting up...

Alrighty I did a install from my ports dir under freebsd and everything worked fine ... Downloaded the current rulesets 
from http://snort.sourcefire.com/downloads/snortrules.tar.gz

Then set the following:
HOME_NET 192.168.1.0/24
EXTERNAL_NET $tun0_ADDRESS

Then started snort like this:
snort -Dc /etc/snort/snort.conf -i tun0

Now my log files are empty and nothing is going to syslog

Please help me get this going I host shells and hate to be hacked due to poor timing.
