Large increase in ICMP Trace route alerts

Greetings:

Over the past 2 days, I've noticed a dramatic increase in Trace Route alerts
on my snort box (1.7).  They're not coming from any specific network.  Has
anyone heard of a new exploit that might be responsible for this increased
activity?
