Subject: Toronto Director of Privacy Fired

I have not located anything on the net yet, but CBC Radio Two noted on the 10:00 news that Rita Reynolds, Toronto's director of corporate access and privacy was just fired for having made public the fact that certain documents concerning the Union Station renovations in that city were shredded.

She had wanted to make the documents public, saying it was her job, and caused a ruckus about the shredding: <http://www.mirror-guardian.com/to/cityhall/story/1081894p-1290811c.html>

Why were they kept secret? Shredded? Might have something to do with the fact that the Mayor's son sits on the board of director's of one of the companies bidding on the project.

This was recently found *not* to be the case, however one wonders how a complete investigation can be made in the absence of full documentation!

Toronto Mayor Mel Lastman is a running joke here in Canada. Even Jon Stewart's Daily Show picked up on his personality, calling him "a dick" with reference to his effusive reaction to the WHO's travel ban to his SARS problem.

Now, he seems to be adding evil and vindictive to his public persona, as well as being widely regarded as a fool.

Blame Canada.
