FC: Steve Schear on Internet providers getting serious about privacy

[Does anyone know any ISPs that do this or plan to do this? I remember that 
Lance's Anonymizer service at one point offered nationwide anonymous 
pay-with-cash/money-order dialup Internet service. Previous Politech

If the ISPs are really serious about customer privacy they will offer 
alternatives to credit cards and account based systems for payments, keep 
no long-term activity data on customers, and allow end-user access 
equipment (e.g., the cable modem) to have its identifying information 
reconfigurable by the end-user (via the LAN interface) so that it is not 
tied for very long to any specific user activities.
