Why am I reminded of the petition of the French candlemakers, who argued that sunlight unfairly hurts candlemakers?

Based on this summary, at least, the Massachusetts union officials are just as self-serving and hostile to shoppers as the protectionist bureaucrats of Bastiat's day.

Groceries Test High-Tech Shopping

A Northeast grocery store chain tests the Shopping Buddy, a
computerized cart that's winning rave reviews from customers. The
device remembers shopping lists and gives final-cost totals of the
cart's contents. But Massachusetts union officials believe the
high-tech cart could cost a lot of grocery store workers their jobs.
