FC: A possible reason for Salon TIPS article and America's Most Wanted

This raises the question: Did a well-intentioned but behind-the-curve operator give the Salon reporter the America's Most Wanted phone number, possibly thinking it was an anthrax tip? (Note I'm not defending even the Oct. 2001 relationship between the Feds and a TV show -- seems highly dubious at best -- but is is an explanation.)

Declan, use my name or not as you see fit.Now I can't find the note but a few days ago someone wrote to say that the link between the FBI and America's Most Wanted, as reported in Salon, was bogus.
Thanks to Sam Smith's "Progressive Review" I saw the following, press release from the US Postal Service. Note the date
October 18, 2001U.S. Postal Inspection Service, FBI offer reward of up to $1 million for information leading to arrest of anthrax mailers
The United States Postal Inspection Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation jointly announced today that an award of up to $1 million is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for mailing letters containing anthrax such as those sent to Tom Brokaw at NBC and to U.S. Senator Tom Daschle. In partnership with America's Most Wanted, confidential telephone calls can be directed to the America's Most Wanted phone bank at 1-800 CRIME TV or to their Web site at www.amw.com.:
