Everyone's been paying attention to the federal DeCSS case in New York where 2600 Magazine has been unsuccessfully trying to fend off the MPAA:

But a state case in California -- while it doesn't involve the DMCA -- is also important. It's a trade secret claim brought by DVD-CCA against hundreds of DeCSS mirror sites. See below (though I suspect the arguments will just be wrangling over jurisdiction, and not reach the heart of the case).

Declan,

You may want to encourage your bay area readers to spare an hour
or so to support Matt in his petition against the DVD-CCA group.

He'll be at the California Appellate Court at 333 W. Santa Clara St.,
10th floor, in San Jose, at approximately 9 a.m., Thu., July 12.
Hearing starts at 9.30am. Heckling should follow shortly after :)
