A "netstrike" officially is when activists, usually upset at a particular for-profit company, sit in front of their computers, load the target's webpage, and click reload repeatedly in hopes of overloading it. Unofficially, some quick wget or Perl coding on the part of the activists might speed up the overload process.

NETSTRIKE.IT SITE SEIZED

In 1995 we invented a new form of network protest: netstrike. In spite
of the name, (that sounded good anyway), it is the networked version of
a peaceful sit-in. The metaphor that best represents it is that of a
number of people that walk on pedestrian crossings with signs and
banners, if their number is really big they can stop traffic for a
 noticeable period of time.
The first target for a netstrike were the sites of french government
that in that period was conducting nuclear tests on Mururoa atoll.
Since that time an infinite series of netstrikes were launched, in some
case we promoted those, in many other by initiative of people all around
 the world.
Six years passed and notwithstanding the diligent attention from the so
called forces of order, no attorney, no matter how zealous, had ever
dreamed of accusing someone for this protest practice that has an
 exclusively symbolic and demonstrative value.
TODAY ON THE LONG WAVE OF THE GENOA DAYS WITH THEIR CHARGE OF REPRESSION
AND DEATH PERPETRATED BY POLICE THE NETSTRIKE.IT SITE HAS BEEN SEIZED
AND REMOVED FROM THE NET BY BOLOGNA POLICE OFFICE ON REQUEST BY POSTAL
 POLICE OF GENOA.
The seizure is in fact originating from one of the eigth investigations
by magistrature on the events in Genoa, even if at the moment we are not
given to know the name of the attorney that signed the seizure order.
WE INVITE EVERYBODY TO SPREAD THIS COMUNIQUE AND WE ASK ANYBODY THAT HAS
THE MEANS TO MIRROR NETSTRIKE.IT SITE BOTH IN ITALY AND ABROAD, SEND MAIL
TO netstrike () autistici org MAILING LIST IF YOU ARE WILLING TO SUPPORT US.

netstrike.it is now mirrored at
http://www.contrast.org/netstrike

There was quite a lot of discussion internally on contrast.org about hosting netstrike. They provide a howto for manual ddos attacks, in a social framework. We at contrast.org do not approve of ddos attacks. But netstrike was taken offline by italian police. It deserves it place on the web. It is mirrored across the world, and on contrast.

The beginnings of an english version:
http://www.contrast.org/netstrike/index_en.html

We will try to open a discussion forum for this site and related issues.

In the mean time you can read their press release on
