Political Candidate’s Vote Selling Gimmick Shutdown

Title: Secretary of State's Office calls for Cease and Desist

The California Secretary of State office has called for a cease and desist
of the $1000.00 cash giveaway on the California 41st assembly district
candidate’s website www.goldman2000.com <http://www.goldman2000.com/> . The
cash giveaway raffle was to have taken place on Election Day and viewed on
Television, heard on Radio and streamed over the Internet via Real Audio and
Windows Media. Colin Goldman’s reply was, “Of course, we never intended to
actually buy a real vote, but rather, our goal was to get people to think
about how politicians from the two major parties use promises of largess
from the public treasury to get themselves into office”.

Colin Goldman is the Libertarian candidate for California’s 41st assembly
district. This district is considered one of the richest electoral
districts in the United States. It includes Santa Monica and Malibu, home
to Hollywood celebrities, producers, directors, corporate CEO’s and the top
executives on the Internet. The other political parties always target those
who are most likely to vote and promise them the attention on financial
issues that target this great lifestyle.

The Internet presents new challenges to replacing the old system of getting
issues discussed, but this was one that raised the question of legality.
With the web site contest no longer a way of getting the message of Campaign
Reform out to the voters, the www.goldman2000.com
<http://www.goldman2000.com/> committee must now solicit last minute cash
donations to the campaign, for distributing by traditional methods, this
important information.
