Pacific Research Institute's Privatization Competition

Is your group offering innovative solutions to public problems in California?

Pacific Research Institute wants to reward you!

About the 2000 Competition

For more than two decades, the Pacific Research Institute (PRI) has championed individual liberty through free markets. In keeping with our mission, every year PRI holds a privatization competition to promote groups and individuals offering innovative solutions to public problems. It is our belief that such examples of private action provide a viable, and often better, alternative to state-provided services.

Our competition recognizes those programs operating in California and promotes them as models of free-market solutions. As we enter the 21st century, innovative technologies are immeasurably expanding the possibilities for progress toward a civil society.

The competition for 2000, "Celebrating Private Initiatives and Technology," will focus on organizations in California that significantly utilize cutting-edge technology and information systems to maximize the social and economic growth of their communities. Examples include, but are not limited to, distance learning, technological workforce training, and telemedicine.

Win up to $10,000

Judges will select five winners, each of whom will receive a cash prize of $2,500. From the pool of five, the judges will then select a grand prize winner that best demonstrates the principles of innovation and initiative that the competition seeks to advance. The grand prize winner will receive an additional $7,500 for a total prize of $10,000.

Who is Eligible?

The competition is open to California-based programs that take private, technological approaches to addressing problems and meeting needs in their communities. Organizations must be privately funded and may not receive more than 25 percent of their funding from government sources.
