Anarchy, State, and the Internet:
E-Libertarians on the Global Frontier

RECEPTION
Tuesday, February 8, 2000
6:30 - 7:45 PM

COST
Complimentary

LOCATION
Stanford Park Hotel, 100 El Camino Real, Menlo Park

Pacific Research Institute invites you to join us for an evening with
Associate Professor of Law David G. Post, Temple University Law School.
Professor Post teaches intellectual property law and the law of cyberspace;
he is also the co-founder and co-director of the Cyberspace Law Institute.

It has become a cliché to observe that the Internet is a kind of libertarian
paradise, although there is much to that view. The net has a remarkable
“architecture of liberty,” but like all liberties, it is under persistent
attack from many directions. And as Orwell reminds us, its survival is not
ensured. As the ideological battle lines take shape, a key question is: What
institutions have the power and, more important, the right to impose their
views of the good on those who are populating this new space? To illuminate
this debate, Professor Post will draw on an interesting historical parallel
the colonization of the New World. He will conclude with a discussion of
how to ensure the continued flourishing of human freedom on the global
network.

David Post attended Georgetown Law Center and graduated summa cum laude in
1986. After clerking with then-Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the D.C. Circuit
Court of Appeals, he spent six years at the Washington, D.C. law firm of
Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering, practicing in the areas of intellectual property
law and high technology commercial transactions. He clerked again for
Justice Ginsburg during her first term on the Supreme Court of the United
States.
